We all have internet speed issues from time to time. This is why this website has been created; to test to see what speed you are actually getting.

Tips for optimal speeds:

  • Whenever possible, test using a wired connection (Ethernet) instead of over Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi can have interference issues from other networks around you, the location of your modem, if you have a separate router, interference issues in your home, the distance between your device and your modem/router. For even better speeds bypass the router (if it’s a separate box) and plug the Ethernet directly from your device to the modem.
  • Always test while only one device is connected to the internet. Most people do not realize that their devices are connected to the internet and could be using the internet to update their apps or programs or to run a virus scan. Testing with multiple devices connected to the internet could reduce your speeds.
The number of devices connected to the internet divided by speed (Mbps)
= Theoretical speed each device can get

Examples:

2 devices divided by 100 Mbps = 50 Mbps each

5  devices divided by 100 Mbps = 20 Mbps each

10 devices divided by 100 Mbps  = 10 Mbps each

So as you can see the more devices connected, the slower your speeds could be.
